CHAPTER HISTORY

On February 25, 2020, the Tyler brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. came together at College Hill Baptist Church, seated at 1314 West Houston Street, Tyler, Texas 75702. The brothers present for this meeting were: Leonard Spurling, Leroy Miles, Wayne Randolph, Ray McDonald, Andy Davis, Kenon Woods, Thomas McDowell, Channing Curry, Rodney Curry, Dwight D. Stoglin, Humphrey Richard, Mittie C. Muse Jr., Michael Tolbert, Johnny Taylor, DeWayne Chandler, Trent Johnson, and Kerick L. Garrett.

The topic for discussion was the rechartering of Epsilon Alpha Lambda. However, when the chartering/rechartering guidelines were reviewed, the brothers realized the chapter charter had been deactivated because the deadline to resubmit the application for rechartering had passed.

These brothers decided to seek the chartering of a new chapter according to the chartering/rechartering guidelines of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. These brothers further committed to:

1) contacting other brothers in the Tyler area to become part of the chartering process, 2) voting on a name of the organization seeking a charter to become a chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.,
3) pay reclamation fees and dues to the named organization and,
4) elect officers of the organization. They scheduled the next meeting for Thursday, May 28, 2020, at College Hill Baptist Church.

On Thursday, May 28, 2020, at College Hill Baptist Church, the Tyler brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. gathered once more.  Those present for this meeting were:  Humphrey D. Richard, Andy Davis, Ray McDonald, Rodney Curry, Thomas McDowell, Channing Curry, Michael Tolbert, Mittie C. Muse Jr., and Kerick L. Garrett. Some brothers were not present because of the COVID 19 pandemic restrictions. However, they stated they agreed with the decisions made and voted on by those present, including serving as officers in the organization seeking a charter to become a chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

The name chosen for the organization was “Brothers of the Old Black and Gold Club.”  On October 20, 2021, the Brothers of the Old Black and Gold Club was granted a charter by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and became the Nu Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
